You just have to know the printer's IP address. To set up a shared or IP printer, go to System Preferences, then select Print and Printing under Fax. After this, click on the plus sign below the printer list.
The top of the printer browser window will have two buttons that open next to Default Browser, and IP Printer. Select the default browser and then select a printer from the list. Your computer will then try to make a connection to the printer. Once the connection is successful, the Add button will be activated and you can click on it to add your printer.
If you are installing an IP printer, then select the IP Printer at the top of the printer browser window. You need to know the protocol used to connect to the printer. Typically, this is the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), but for some HP printers, you may need to choose HP Jet Direct.
Under the address, enter the IP address for the printer (this is made up of four numbers separated by dots). Once your computer creates a successful connection to the printer, the button at the bottom of the window will be activated and you can click on the printer to add it.
